LEWISTON -- Alton Chester Morrill, 81, of 261 Summer St., Auburn, died Monday afternoon at Central Maine Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Auburn, Feb. 8, 1912, he was the son of Chester A. and Agnes M. Marston Morrell. He was educated in Auburn schools and served in India with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to the former Marie Beattie, who died in Lewiston on Feb. 27, 1972.
In his earlier years, he was a member of the Auburn Fire Department and in later years was employed by the city of Auburn as city electrician. He served for 25 years in that capacity, and, after retiring worked for the Auburn Parking District. He was a member of the First Universalist Church of Auburn, United Commercial Travelers and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Moyes of San Diego, Calif.; three grandsons and three great-grandsons, all of San Diego; and a longtime companion Joyce Murphy of Auburn.
