MRS. WENDALL TINKHAM
MONMOUTH WOMAN DIED OF BURNS RECEIVED TRYING TO SAVE A CHILD
South Monmouth, Mar. 28 -- The death of Mrs. Eva Tinkham, wife of Wendall Tinkham of this place, occurred last evening as a result of burns she received earlier in the day when her dress was ignited by flame from a Franklin stove. Mrs. Tinkham reached by the open front to snatch her baby from danger. The child was in a rocker and perilously near the fire. When the mother's dress caught fire, she ran from the house to the barn calling for her husband to aid. In trying to extinguish the flames, Mr. Tinkham had his left arm burned so badly that it will be useless for sometime and his coat was burned off.
Mrs. Tinkham was born a Wales, March 10, 1894, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank O. Maxwell. She was educated in the public schools of Wales and Monmouth Academy. She lived in Wales until her marriage to Mr. Tinkham in 1915. Besides her husband and Wendall Jr., eight months old, there are two other children, Eugene and Melvin, her parents, six sisters and three brothers who are Mrs. Winnifred Thomas, Wales; Miss Lottie Maxwell, Lewiston; Gladys Maxwell, Boston, Mass.; Velma, Elizabeth and Dorothy Maxwell of Wales; Clifton Maxwell of Monmouth; Ralph and Earl Maxwell of Wales and a grandmothers, Mrs. Elizabeth Jenkins of Wales.
DIED -- at Monmouth, March 25, Mrs. Wendall Tinkham. Funeral services private from her late home, Friday, March 28 at 10 o'clock. Interment in the Maxwell Cemetery.
