CLARENCE IRVING SAWYER

HOWLAND -- Clarence Irving Sawyer, 67, died Jan. 27, 1989 at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Enfield, March 17, 1921, the son of Lester F. Sr. and Clara (Messer) Sawyer. He was a veteran of World War II and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had been retired from Local 321, United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumming and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada. He had been employed on construction sites throughout New England.

He is survived by one step-daughter, Joan Smith of Howland; one step-son, Dalton Merrill of Lake Stevens, Wash.; two brothers, Lester Sawyer, Jr. of Lagrange and Maynard Sawyer of Enfield; four sisters, Agatha Cummings of Steep Falls, Shirley DeLong of Maxfield, Marilyn Weatherbee of Olamon and Blanche Armstrong of Medford; three stepgrandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He waas predeceased by four brothers, Frank, Donald, David and Byron.

Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Clay, Stevens and Clay Funeral Home, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Clayton Crocker officiating. Spring burial will be in the Howland Cemetery.
