Paul Schorno Becker

Paul Schorno Becker passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at home in Garden Farms, Atascadero. As per the family wishes, there will be no services.

Paul was born in Bozeman, Mont., in 1914, the youngest of five, with four older sisters. He spent his youth scampering around Montana and Yellowstone National Park. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he made many friends who he kept in contact with for many years. He graduated from San Jose State University obtaining his teaching credential.

Paul married Vivian Lindsey, a San Luis Obispo native, in 1941. They traveled to Central America where they managed a hotel in Guatemala for five years. Paul ran a radio program called "American Notebook." For 10 years he was the director of the bi-national school, Escuela Americana, in El Salvador. Following that, he was director of the bi-national school, Academia Arguello, in Argentina, for ten years. Then for two years he ran the bi-national Cotopaxi Academy in Ecuador. He touched many lives and has friends all over the world.

Returning to the U.S. in 1970, they settled in San Luis Obispo. Paul opened the Coast to Coast Hardware store and made many more friends.

He is survived by his wife Vivian; their son, Paul D. Becker and family, Eileen, Cathy, John, Oscar, their daughter Monica Becker and Paul Torba, and their daughter Leslie Crocker and her family Tim, Sara, Casey and Steve.
