KATHERINE EVANS
KNOXVILLE -- Katherine L. "Katie" Evans, 78, of 100 S. Line St. died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday, May 12, 1996, at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Galesburg to Clifford and Edith Andrews Evans.
Surviving are a friend, Marge Holiman, with whom she made her home; and five cousins, Mary E. Goff of Knoxville, Katherine Kropp of Milwaukee, Dr. Jerry Pickrell of North Carolina, Margaret Ruth Mummert of Arizona and Mary Jane Bruns of Pennsylvania.
She attended nursing training at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for one year. She worked for Douglas Aircraft and for Texaco Refinery, both in Long Beach, Calif., during World War II. She later worked for Dr. Merrell Beecher in Knoxville for 15 years. She then worked for Dr. Gene Tribby in Galesburg for seven years. She last worked for Dr. Robert Hickerson in Knoxville for 14 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Knoxville, United Methodist Women and Debbie Dornon Circle.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Knoxville Cemetery. The Rev. David G. Hultberg will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hurd- Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to her church or to Galesburg Cottage Hospital Life Line.
