LEWISTON TEXTILE MAN SUCCUMBS TO LONG ILLNESS
Ronald Crawford McIlroy, 64, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, at his home, 457 Main St., Lewiston, after an illness of seven months. He was born June 9, 1882 at Winthrop, the son of Mary A. Stanley and the late John H. McIlroy. He was educated in the schools of Monmouth and at Kents Hill. For some years he was associated with his father in the John H. McIlroy Son & Co. in Monmouth.
In later years, he succeeded his uncle, Ronald C. McIlroy, as agent of the Winthrop Mills Co. In December, 1922, he came to Lewiston and for some time was associated with the Columbia Mills. He was well known and an expert textile engineer, and had held responsible positions.
He was a past master Monmouth Lodge of Masons, Past Eminent Commander of the Trinity Commandery of Augusta, Past President of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club, Vice President of the Lewiston, Greene and Monmouth Telephone Co., and a member of the board of Trustees Monmouth Academy. He had served on the schools boards of Winthrop and Lewiston.
He is survived by his widow, Rena Leadbetter McIlroy; four daughters, Mrs. James Hawes of Wellesley, Mass., Mrs. Lawrence J. Flynn of Monmouth, Mrs. Edward F. Wellman, Jr. of Wilbraham, Mass. and Mrs. John M. Lockhead [sic] of Portland; six grandsons; his mother who is 86 years old; two sisters, Miss Margaret E. McIlroy of Lewiston and Mrs. Clyde W. Watson of Portland; two nephews and one niece.
DIED -- In Lewiston, Sept 23, Ronald C. McIlroy, age 64. Funeral services private from Teague & Stevens Funeral Home, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment at Glenside Cemetery, Winthrop, Maine. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
