James H. Hawes

James H. Hawes, 70, at 46 University St., Auburn, died unexpectedly early Thursday morning at his home.

Born at Stoughton, Mass., Aug. 14, 1904, the son of Joseph and Catherine Donnellan Hawes, he was a graduate of Bates College and was an alumni trustee in the early '60s.

He start his career with W.T. Grant in 1927 and was graduated from Harvard Business School. Mr. Hawes was a Fourth Degree Knight.

He married the formerr Dorothy McIlroy and the couple resided here int he winters and at Rye Beach, N.H. in the summers.

Survivors include his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Johannah) Currier of Wells; and one grandson.

HAWES -- In Auburn, March 20, 1975, Mr. James H. Hawes, husband of Dorothy McIlroy Hawes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung at St. Phillip's Church Saturday March 22 at 11 a.m. with entombment at Mt. Auburn Cemetery with burial at Ray Beach Cemetery, Rye, N.H. Friends may call at the Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home, 212 Turner St., Auburn on Friday from 2 to 4 an 7 to 9 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions to the Maine Heart Association, PO Box 741, Augusta, Me. 04330 in memory of Mr. James H. Hawes.

(Dorothy Stanchfield McIlroy was born 21 May 1907 in Monmouth, Kennebec County, Maine,²⁷² died 18 September 1977 in Auburn, Androscoggin County, Maine ⁶⁸⁵² and was buried after 18 September 1977 in Rye, Rockingham County, New Hampshire at Central Cemetery.)
