ONARGA - Anita L. Rice, 95, of Onarga died at 10:30 a.m. Friday (Dec. 9, 1994) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, following a short illness.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Onarga, the Rev. Nicholas Showalter officiating. Burial will be in Onarga Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church and an hour before the service Monday at the church. Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, is in charge or arrangements.
She was born Sept. 21, 1899, on the family farm in Delrey, a daughter of Ira M. and Carrie Capen Lindsey. She married Leo M. Rice Aug. 6, 1924, at Kentland, Ind. He preceded her in death. Surviving are a granddaughter, Virginia L. Cultra, Onarga; a grandson, Allan M. Jackson Jr., Kankakee; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a sister.
The family farm in Delrey on which she was raised had been homsteaded by her great-grandfather during Martin Van Buren's presidency in the 1830s.
She attended the Delrey School, was a 1916 graduate of Onarga High School, and a 1918 graduate of Virginia College, Roanoke, Va. She received her nursing degree from Mary Thompson Hospital, Chicago, and became a registered nurse in 1921.
Mrs. Rice had been a member of United Methodist Church, Onarga, since 1913. She also was a member and past matron of Onarga Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Survivors Club of Onarga and the Ruskin Club.
She enjoyed playing the piano.
Memorials may be made to the hunmane societies in Champaign or Kankakee counties.
Died after a short illness.
