Oliver Clyde Stevens Given Reception on Leaving Twining


Twining, Mich., Sept. 23 - A reception was tendered Oliver Clyde Stevens at the home of his parents just before he left for Flint where he is to teach in the Michigan School for the Deaf. Mr. Stevens is 25 years of age and attended the state school at Flint four years. He was editor and proprietor of the Twining Record for some time and attended Galandet College for the mute at Washington, D.C. from which he graduated with a diploma of bachelor of arts. He was editor-in-chief of the college paper. While in Washington he was a favorite friend of the secretary of the Japanese ambassador and attended a reception at the White House at the invitation of President and Mrs. McKinley and attended two receptions at the White House since Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt have been there and rode as an honored guest in one of the carriages at the inaugural of President Roosevelt.

WEDDING AT BRIDE'S HOME
BRIDE AND GROOM TO TAKE LONG HONEYMOON TRIP

Oliver Clyde Stevens and Miss Ruth Leadbetter, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Leadbetter, were united in marriage last evening, at 7:30 o'clock at the home of the bride, 708 Ann Arbor Street. Rev. C.A. Lippincott of the Presbyterian Church officiated.

The maid of honor was Miss Alta Leadbetter, sister of the bride, and Horace Leadbetter, brother of the bride, of Columbus, O., assisted as best man. Miss Leadbetter was attired in pink and carried pink roses. The bride wore white and carried a shower bouquet of white roses. Mrs. J.C. King played the bridal chorus from "Lohengrin" and the wedding part passed into the reception room in front of a background formed of asparagus fern. On either side were tall pedestals of marguerites.

Following the service, refreshments were served in the dining room by Misses Margery Black, Menna and Gussie Alexander and Laura Kauffman. Punch was served in the living room by Misses Mattie Baker and Virginia Forrest. The appointments in the dining room were pink and green.

Mr. and Mrs. Stevens received a number of gifts. They left on a wedding trip which will last until September, when they will return to Flint and take up their residence on Grand Traverse Street. Mr. and Mrs. Stevens are both teachers at the Michigan School for the Deaf.

Among the guests were Mrs. Sarah Leadbetter, Mrs. A. Choate, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Horace Leadbetter, Jr. of Columbus, O., Mr. and Mrs. Stevens of Twining and Mr. and Mrs. G. Like of Bay City.
