John married Emeline S. Knapp, daughter of Levi Foss Knapp and Mary W. Soper, 27 September 1868 in New Portland, Somerset County, Maine.⁴⁵⁷⁶ (Emeline S. Knapp was born about 1833 in Maine,⁹⁴⁶ died 20 May 1870 ⁴⁵⁷⁷ and was buried after 20 May 1870 in Freeman, Franklin County, Maine at Burbank-Nile Cemetery.) The cause of her death was typhoid fever.
