James Robert Linton was born on Dec. 10, 1932 at the Brumley family homestead in the Bear Paw area 10 miles north of Priest River, Idaho to James and Ellen (Brumley) Linton. He passed away at the age of 78 on Nov. 20, 2011 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. Jim grew up at the Linton family home 3 miles north of Priest River on Highway 57.

He remained a lifelong resident of Priest River. Being the oldest of 10 children Jim spent most of his childhood helping with his younger brothers and sisters, hunting, fishing, and helping his father in the family logging business. All things he would have a passion to do the rest of his life. After graduating from Priest River High School he went right to work in the woods driving logging truck. At age 20 he purchased a logging truck of his own. He was shortly thereafter drafted into the army and served his country for two years in Germany. Upon his return he got back in his truck and went to work. He did take an evening off in April of 1955 to go on a blind date with Joann Fiedler. Two years later they were married. Jim continued to expand his logging and trucking business.

He and Joany had 3 boys all of whom ended up in the logging business with him. Logging was not just a job for Jim it was a way of life so it's no surprise he never retired, only reduced the size of his logging operation to where he spent the last 10 years managing and working on his tree farm at Saddler Creek.

He and Joany did take time to travel to Europe and Australia among other places.

Jim really enjoyed hunting, fishing, and socializing with the many friends he accumulated over the years. And as far as we can remember there were no enemies.

He will truly be missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Joany, sons Sonny, Steve (and Jill), Greg (and Tina) Linton all of Priest River. Grandchildren Kyle, Chelsea, and Tanner Linton and Makia and Caden Brennan. Brothers Gerald, Delbert (and Cindy), Mickey (and Vicki). Sisters June (and Don) and Joy. And many Nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral and graveside service was held on Nov. 26.

Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River was in charge of the arrangements.

Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at Sherman-knapp.com
