END COMES PEACEFULLY TO SPRINGWATER PIONEER
Branch TUCKER, one of county's earliest settlers, dies on Friday, June 28th, 1918
At the ripe old age of 84 years and after a residence in Springwater since taking up a donation-land-claim in 1852, Branch TUCKER died peacefully at the family home, Friday morning, June 28th, 1918.
The passing of "Uncle Branch", as he was familiarly known among his hosts of friends, was not unexpected, as the old gentleman had been in failing health for the past year.
This is the first death in the TUCKER family and realizing that their father's death was imminent, the entire family, excepting one son, and many of whom came from distant points, were at his bedside when the end came.
In the presence of hundreds of relatives, friends and neighbors, impressive funeral services were held at the family home Sunday afternoon, June 30th, 1918, Rev. Henry Spiess officiating, with the burial in charge of undertaker Chapman occurring in the nearby Springwater Cemetery.
Mr. TUCKER was born in Surry County, North Carolina, August 26th, 1834, residing for a few years in Missouri, prior to his crossing the plains with his parents, making the trip by ox teams and locating in Oregon in the year 1852, where he and his brother took up adjoining donation-land-claims in what is now Springwater.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Martha Ann Horner TUCKER and three sons and four daughters, being Amos Jackson TUCKER of Bend, Oregon; Rueben Garret TUCKER of Twin Falls, Idaho; Louis M. TUCKER of Silverton, Oregon; Mrs. John Marchbank (Anna Louisa TUCKER) of Estacada; Mrs. Al Lindsey (Wilda Ellen TUCKER) of Scobey, Montana; Mrs. Eugene Lewellen (Martha Melvina TUCKER) of Springwater and Mary Thomas (Mary Ethel TUCKER) of The Dalles.
