Perry Price
ONARGA - Perry Hampton Price, 89, of Onarga, died Friday (April 22, 2005) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Onarga Christian Church, Onarga. The Rev. James Small and Neil Larimore will officiate. Burial will be in Onarga Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Knapp Funeral Home, 115 W. Seminary St., Onarga, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mr. Price was born Jan. 25, 1916, in Oblong, a son of John and Effie Hill Price. He married Edna Grider on May 29, 1937, in Watseka. She died Nov. 12, 1996. He married Doris Lindsay Hamilton on April 25, 1998, in Onarga. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard Price of Danforth and William Price of Onarga; a daughter, Joan Jordan of Rantoul; two stepdaughters, Marjorie Johnson of Onarga and Deborah Schmohe of Buckley; a stepson, David Hamilton of Batavia; nine grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and six sisters.
Mr. Price graduated from Onarga High School in 1934 and Onarga Military School in 1936. He worked at Caterpillar in Peoria, then moved back to Onarga in 1947 to establish his tree trimming and landscaping business, which is still in the family.
He was a member of Onarga Christian Church. He was on the Onarga village board for many years; he was a Democratic precinct committeeman for many years; and he worked as a night patrolman for the village. He was also a rural mail carrier; he helped raise funds for the village swimming pool; and he played Santa Claus for the village. He served on the Grand Prairie Seminary board of directors for more than 40 years.
He was voted Onarga's Citizen of the Year in 1992.
