Clara Reschly
Clara Elizabeth Cannon Reschly died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
Born June 2, 1916, in Washington she was the daughter of Howard L. and Elizabeth A. Swift Wittrig. In 1936, she married Charles Cannon. He died. In 1987, she married Floyd Reschly in Austin, Texas. He died in 1998.
Mrs. Reschly farmed with her first husband near Ainsworth and Swedesburg. She was librarian for the city library in Winfield. She worked at Younkers in Cedar Rapids and the Sunflower Shop in Washington. She graduated from Washington High School in 1934. She was active in the Olds Congregational Church where she taught Bible School and directed the choir. She was President of the Olds Consolidated School PTA, a 50-year member of the Social Hour Club and a member of Order of Eastern Star. She became a member of the Presbyterian Church and later a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, making doll clothes and hats, arranging flowers and collecting and making Teddy bears.
Survivors include one son, Max Cannon of Des Moines; one daughter, Lynn Rew of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepson, Ken Reschly of Olds; and three stepdaughters, Joyce Reschly of Olds, Barbara King and Ruth Ann Miller both of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends.
The funeral for Mrs. Reschly will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
A memorial has been established for United Presbyterian Home.
