Ellen Hesner
Passed away at age 95. She is born on July 21, 1912, her name then was Ellen Hurd and she lived in Baskas, Minnesota.
The family later moved to Harrison, Idaho, where in 1926, she came to Roseburg, Oregon, and she met and married Russell Surkamer in 1927. They had six children, three girls and three boys. They lost a boy in 1938 and then the eldest son, in 1993. Russell died in 1972. In 1975, she married Floyd Hesner and they were both great shuffleboard players. Hess as he was called died in 1991. She loved a nice yard and taking care of her flowers. When she moved to town she made beautiful craft work.
She is survived by a sister, Ruby Gledding of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; sister, Velma McDonald of Idaho; daughter, Betty Ritzman and grandson, Chuck of Tenmile, Oregon; Linda and Gary Bowen of Cresent, Oregon; Carol and Tex Deaton of Roseburg, Oregon; son, Gene and Judiann Surkamer of Roseburg.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Harvard. Final resting place will be at the Civil Bend Cemetery in Winston.
Ellen married Floyd Harvey Hesner, son of Ellis Hesner and Alteeny Rambo, in 1975. (Floyd Harvey Hesner was born 16 October 1910 in Oregon 9177 and died 1 March 1991 in Douglas County, Oregon 9178.)
