MERLE MORGAN

RANGELEY - Merle Roscoe Morgan, 58, died unexpectedly late Monday night at his home here.

Born at Phillips, April 22, 1905, he was the son of David F. and Maude Cushman Morgan. He was educated in Phillips schools and was employed by the Sandy River and Rangeley Narrow Gauge Railroad. In 1939 he came to Rangeley as a truck driver for the Rangeley Motor Express. In 1947, Mr. Morgan worked for Petroleum Distributors at the time of his death. He was a past noble grand of Mount Saddleback Lodge, IOOF, a former member of Hope Rebekah Lodge and North Franklin Grange, past master of Blue Mountain Lodge, AF & AM, all of Phillips. He was serving his first year as district deputy grandmaster of District 15, served as president of the East Richardson Rod and Gun Club and was past chief and a member of the Rangeley Fire Department no. 1.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dorris Knapp Morgan of this town; a son, Terrence, a daughter, Merideth, two brothers, Blaine of Phillips and Phillip of Kingfield, two sisters, Mrs. Fern Elliott of Rumford and Mrs. Pearl Weymouth of Phillips.

DIED - At Rangeley Feb. 18, Merle Roscoe Morgan, aged 58. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Rangeley Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Kamenkeag Lodge no. 213? Building Fund or to the Charity Fund of Blue Mount Lodge no. 22. Friends may call at the Rowe Funeral Home Wednesday and Thursday afternoon and evening. Interment in the spring.
