Dalton R. "Dave" Budge
BREWER - Dalton R. "Dave" Budge, 74, passed away Jan. 22, 2011, at an Orono health care facility.
He was born March 25, 1936, in Springfield, the son of Clifford and Elaine (Averill) Budge. Dave was valedictorian of his class at Lee Academy. He resided in Hermon for many years, where he was a member of Hermon Volunteer Rescue Squad and was Cub Master for Hermon Cub Scouts, Pack 9. Dave worked for many years as bookkeeper at Pilot's Grill restaurant. He retired as human resource director for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, where he was a member of the Railroad Editors Association and a charter member of Maine Operation Lifesaver Committee. A musician, known professionally as "Dave Dalton," he performed for more than 50 years on radio, television and stage, beginning with his Lee Academy band, The Northern Lights. He was well known as the leader of Bluegrass Supply Company and made many country and bluegrass recordings. In 2009 he was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame.
He is survived by five children, Jennifer Binger and her husband, Frank, of Holly Springs, Ga., Jeffrey Budge and his wife, Laurie, of Hermon, Paul Budge of Eddington, Rebecca Churchill of Carmel and James Budge and his wife, Lisa, of Milford; ex-wife, Linda Burns of Citrus Heights, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Jason Budge, Kenneth Kingery III, Amanda Kingery, Jerod Budge, Lance Churchill, Raven Churchill, Rachelle Schaden, Sarah Manning, Adam, Heather and Ryan Kennedy; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Lea and Isabella Schaden, Kamryn and Michael Kennedy; two brothers, Ronald and Kenneth, both of Springfield; two sisters, Hope White and Marilyn Vose, both of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews; and his very special pet, Mouse the cat.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, with the Rev. Roy A. Richardson officiating.
