HALON AND ALICE AYARS 230 EAST MAIN
Haldon is president of Ayars State Bank and Alice is a housewife. Haldon's family came from Scotland. His maternal grandfather was a surgeon in the Civil War. His paternal grandfather owned the first mill in Moweaqua, and in fact, was killed in the mill when the flywheel broke all to pieces one morning while using the same. This same grandfather was killed seven months before his father, Mart Ayars, was born. All of Haldon's life, like his father's, was in the banking business. He naturally followed him. He is starting his fifty-fifth year in the banking business in Moweaqua.
Haldon graduated from Brown's Business College and attended two years at Millikin University, Decatur.
Alice's parents were Frank and Jessie Allen Herren. Her father was a banker in Fillmore, Illinois. Lyman Allan, her grandfather, came from New Hampshire. He taught the first silent school in Montgomery County. Alice was one of five children: two brothers and three sisters. One sister, Mrs. Joe (Dorothy) Fearheiley, taught in Moweaqua Elementary School. Alice graduated in piano in 1916 from Millikin University.
Haldon and Alice were married fifty-seven years on March 26, 1976. They have one son, A. Buck Ayars, who lives in Northbrook, Illinois. He attended Millikin, U. of I., and Harvard University. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He has four children, two married, one in college, and the other in business in Chicago.
Haldon and Alice's home was built in 1851 and was previously owned by Dr. Godfrey, Jas. Rodman and A.M. Hughey.
