CONSTANCE LOCHHEAD
1915-2003

LEWISTON --
Constance McIlroy Lochhead, 88, of Auburn, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Born in Winthrop on August 13, 1915, the daughter of Ronald Crawford McIlroy and Rena Leadbetter McIlroy, Mrs. Lochhead attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in the class of 1933. She received her business education in Trenton, N.J. and Auburn.

Beginning in 1936, Mrs. Lochhead worked as a secretary for the Maine Department of Health and Welfare in Augusta. During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Maritime Commission in South Portland, the U.S. Naval Ordnance Department in Macon, Ga. and at Babson Institute in Wellesley, Mass.

On August 31, 1940, she married John Malcolm Lochhead of Auburn, who died in May of 1990. They made their home in Portland; Macon, Ga.; and Buffalo, N.Y. before returning to Auburn in 1949.

Mrs. Lochhead was a member of the High Street Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of the Women's Guild. For many years, she was a member of the YWCA, where she served on the Board of Directors. She also belonged to the Women's Hospital Association of CMMC and the Auburn Art Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Shelley Lochhead, of West Hopkinton, N.H.; two sisters, Katherine Flynn of Lewiston and Madeline Wellman of East Longmeadow, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a third sister, Dorothy Hawes, in 1978.

Died in Lewiston, Oct. 16, 2003, Mrs. Constance Lochhead, 88, a resident of 200 Stetson Rd., Auburn. Graveside committal services will be held Friday 1 p.m. Oct. 24, at Mt. Auburn Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Martz officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231. Family and friends are invited to gather together 12:30 p.m. prior to the committal at the family owned Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel, 62 Spring St., Auburn. 784-6449.
