Leon M. Rice


Leo M. Rice, 75, of Onarga, died at 5:30 a.m. today at the Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, following a five-week illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga with Pastor Thomas Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Onarga Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was born April 2, 1903 in Piper City, the son of Fred and Linda Thompson Rice and spent his entire lifetime in the Onarga area.

He married Anita Lindsey August 6, 1924 at Kentland and she survives along with one grand-daughter, Mrs. Virginia Cultra of Onarga and one grandson, Allen Jackson Jr. of Kankakee. Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Dianne.

He was a member of the Onarga Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Onarga Masonic Lodge, a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, a graduate of the Onarga High School and the Worsham College of Mortuary Science of Chicago and was a life long licensed funeral director and embalmer.
