Shirley Meier

GALESBURG - Shirley A. Meier, 71, 1223 Hillside Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Galesburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, with a wake service at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Shirley was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Galesburg, Ill., the daughter of Lowell Russell and Margaret June (Stotts) Holmes.

Those left to honor her memory include her stepfather, Robert J. Ainley of Kewanee, Ill.; her son, Brian (Wendy) DeKeyser of Atlanta, Ga.; her daughter, Julie (Peter) Dokas of Rapids City, Ill.; her eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sisters, Cecelia (Chuck) Basham of Galesburg, Ill., and Janet (Ron) Morris of Neponset, Ill.; her brothers, Russell (Bev) Holmes of Richmond, Va., James (Judy) Holmes of East Peoria, Ill., and William (Sandy) Holmes of Suisun, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John E. Holmes.
