MRS. WINIFRED EDWARDS
MONMOUTH - Mrs. Winifred G. Edwards, 62, widow of William H. Edwards, Jr. of Augusta, died Monday afternoon at her home in Monmouth following a short illness.
Born July 17, 1880, Mrs. Edwards was the daughter of David G. [sic] and Rose Stanchfield Gott of Monmouth. She received her education in the Monmouth schools, graduating from Monmouth Academy and was a graduate of Dingley Training School, Lewiston.
She taught in schools at Monmouth and Rumford, did private tutoring at Augusta about 20 years, and returned to Monmouth 15 years ago, where she was principal of the Monmouth Center grammar school. Mrs. Edwards, a talented musician, formerly served as chorister at the Monmouth Congregational church and taught piano for many years at Augusta and in Monmouth. She was keenly interested in children and in all educational work, and was an organizer and held active membership in school and parent associations in Augusta and Monmouth. She was a member of the United Church, Monmouth.
She is survived by four children, Margaret of Lewiston; Norman H. of Monmouth; Mrs. Alexander Johnson, Lincoln; and Mrs. Paul G. Deeter, Pittston, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Harry H. Cochrane, Monmouth; three grandchildren; and several cousins.
DIED - In Monmouth, Sept. 21, Mrs. Winifred G. Edwards, age 62. Funeral services at the United Church, Thursday, at 2 p.m. Burial Monmouth Ridge Cemetery.
