MRS. ROSE E. GOTT Descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims Dies at Daughter's Home in Monmouth
Monmouth, Jan. 1 - In failing health for some time, Mrs. Rose E. Gott, widow of Joseph G. Gott, died Saturday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Winifred Edwards.
Mrs. Gott was born in Leeds, Dec. 6, 1845, the eldest daughter of Isaac and Abigail Lindsay Knapp Stinchfield. Of true American stock, she descended from Mayflower Pilgrims, thru father and mother. Isaac Allerton and Francis Cook, ancestors of her father and mother, are mentioned as forefathers of President Roosevelt.
To her great-grandfather, Thomas Stinchfield, who with his brother, Roger, settled the town of Leeds, the native chief, Sabattus, gave a tract of land on Dead River as a reward for his friendship to the Indians. On this tract she lived for awhile.
In her youthful days, she possessed a beautiful soprano voice and with her sister, Mrs. J.M. Ridley of Oakland, and brothers, Dr. Charles K. Stinchfield and J. Clark Stinchfield of Wayne, sang in a quartet that was in demand in home and adjoining towns.
She married Jan. 3, 1862, Joseph G. Gott, of Leeds, for many years traveling salesman for T.A. Huston Co. They moved to Monmouth in 1875. She was the oldest member of the Congregational church of Monmouth.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ida L. Cochrane, the wife of the artist Harry H. Cochrane; and Mrs. Winifred G. Edwards, a popular teacher in the Center school; an only son, Arthur L., died at the age of ten years. She also leaves four grandchildren: Norma Edwards and the Misses Margaret, Eleanor and Dorothy Edwards, all of Monmouth, and one great-grandson.
DIED - In Monmouth, December 30, Mrs. Rose E. Gott, widow of Joseph G. Gott. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the United Church.

Rose married Joseph Gould Gott, son of William Gott and Ruth Gould, 3 January 1862 in Leeds, Androscoggin County, Maine 869.,870 (Joseph Gould Gott was born 20 October 1835 in Livermore, Androscoggin County, Maine,873 died 6 November 1910 in Monmouth, Kennebec County, Maine 873,874 and was buried after 6 November 1910 in Wayne, Kennebec County, Maine at Lakeshore Cemetery (formerly Pinewoods Cemetery) 873.) The cause of his death was due to a fall that caused heart disease.
