STINCHFIELD-SAWYER

WILTON -
An attractive home wedding was solemnized Saturday afternoon, Jan. 31, when Miss Elizabeth Prince Sawyer became the bride of John Clark Stinchfield. Mrs. Stinchfield is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earle W. Sawyer. She attended local schools, graduating from Wilton Academy in the class of 1936 where she was prominent in athletics. She later attended the Miss Wheelock School in Boston and recently has been in the Underwood School at Falmouth Foreside. Mrs. Stinchfield is the son of Mrs. Katie Clark Stinchfield and the late Allen H. Stinchfield of Wayne. He attended Winthrop high school and the University of Maine and is now employed as a research chemist at the S.D. Warren Paper Co., Westbrook. The newly weds will be at home at 785 Main Street, Westbrook, following a short wedding trip.

The ceremony was performed by candlelight and the house was decorated with white candles and white cut flowers with evergreens as the background. The bride was gowned in white satin with sweetheart neckline, accented with pearls. She wore a finger tip veil and carried a shower bouquet of white roses, carnations and sweet peas. She was attended by her sister, Miss Mira L. Sawyer of Auburndale, Mass., as maid of honor, who attired in aqua silk jersey and carried a bouquet of deep pink roses and carnations.

Mr. Stinchfield was attended by his brother, Roger Stinchfield. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Earle W. Sawyer. The wedding march was played by Mrs. William Sabin of Wilton, a Wilton Academy classmate of the bride. For her going away costume, Mrs. Stinchfield wore a powder blue silk dress with wine accessories. Out-of-town guests at the wedding were: Mrs. Katie Stinchfield, Miss Helen Stinchfield, Roger Stinchfield, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stetson, Miss Mildred Stetson, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Soule and Mrs. and Mrs. Ernest Brown, all of Wayne; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rollins of Winthrop; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Verrill, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Russell, William Schnorr, Ralph Wilde, and Frank Regan of Westbrook; Mrs. and Mrs. Alex Robertson of Lewiston; Mrs. Dewing Proctor of Portland; Miss Alice Sweetser of Auburn; J. ELIZABETH P. 'LIB' STINCHFIELD, 82

Elizabeth P. "Lib" Stinchfield, 82, of Monroe Avenue died Oct. 17, 2000, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a short illness.

She was born in Wilton, a daughter of Earl and Edith Sawyer, attended local schools and graduated from Wheelock College in 1940.

In 1942 she married John C. Stinchfield of Wayne. They became lifelong residents of Westbrook and enjoyed summers at Highland Lake in Falmouth. Mr. Stinchfield died in 1976.

Mrs. Stinchfield was active in the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, was an officer of the board of trustees of Eunice Frey Home, and was an active member of the Wheelock Club and Current Events Club. She played golf and tennis.

Surviving are her two sons, Alan Stinchfield of Gurnee, Ill., and James Stinchfield of Anson; her sister, Myra Roberts of Sanford; and five grandchildren.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church.
