JAMES DAY HANCOCK
James Day Hancock, 83, of Lee's Summit, MO (formerly of Lake Winnebago, MO), passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born January 5, 1919, in Seattle, WA. His family moved to Eau Claire, WI, where he graduated from high school in 1936. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1940. He was a veteran of World War II. He married Ruth Larrabee in Corvallis, OR, in 1945.
He worked in the general office of Badger Lumber Company in Kansas City for over 10 years. He then worked for Timberline, Inc., in the wholesale lumber business for over 25 years until his retirement in 1984 and achieved the position of Secretary-treasurer of the Company. Jim was an avid golfer and was a charter member of Tomahawk Hills Country Club. He was active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lee's Summit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter Benjamin Hancock and John L. Hancock; a sister-in-law, Florann Hancock; and a son, Edward James Hancock.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth L. Hancock, Lee's Summit; his sister, Peggy Siggens and her husband, Ray Siggens, Amery, WI; a sister-in-law, Annabelle Hancock, Marshfield, WI; his daughter, Carole Maugh and her husband, Gary Maugh, Stockton, MO; a son, Bill Hancock and his wife, Marquita Hancock, Lake Winnebago, MO; and three grandchildren, Christopher Hancock, Raytown, MO, Andy Maugh, Kansas City, MO, and Leslie Hancock, Columbia, MO.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2002, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, I-435 and Holmes Road. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2002, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 5th & Green St., Lee's Summit, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lee's Summit, MO. (Arrangements: Mt. Moriah & Freeman, 816-942-2004)
James married Ruth Larrabee, daughter of Orrin Henry Larrabee and Gena Alvilda Hanson, in 1945 in Corvallis, Benton County, Oregon 6561.,6562 (Ruth Larrabee was born 24 April 1921 in Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County, Wisconsin 6561 and died 2 February 2003 in Summit, Washington County, Missouri 6561.)
