Ruth Larrabee Hancock


Ruth Larrabee Hancock, 81, of Lee's Summit, MO (formerly of Lake Winnebago, MO), passed away Sunday, February 2, 2003, at the John Knox Care Center.

She was born April 24, 1921 in Chippewa Falls, WI where she graduated from high school as valedictorian in 1938. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a degree in Economics in 1942, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

She married James D. Hancock of Eau Claire, WI in Corvallis, OR in 1945 and settled in the Kansas City area after World War II.

She worked in the insurance industry before becoming a full time Mom. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother a good neighbor and a friend to many.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lee's Summit. She was involved in many of her children's activities and was active in the Lake Winnebago community serving on the Homeowners Board and as editor of the Lake Winnebago Signal. She also was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and St. Luke's Auxiliary.

She enjoyed planning vacations and traveling, which she and her husband enjoyed in their retirement years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James D. Hancock, in November 2002; her parents, Judge Orrin and Gina Larrabee; a sister, Louise Lindberg and her husband, Col. Robert Lindberg; a brother-in-law, John J. Weiss; and a son, Edward James Hancock.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Weiss of Wilmette IL; a daughter, Carole Maugh and her husband, Gary, Stockton, MO; a son, Bill Hancock and his wife, Marquita, Lake Winnebago, MO; and three grandchildren, Christopher Hancock, Raytown, MO, Andy Maugh Kansas City, MO and Leslie Hancock, Columbia, MO.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2003, from 1-3 p.m. at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, I-435 and Holmes Road followed by a Memorial Service starting at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lee's Summit, MO or Kansas City Hospice.
