Educator and Prominent Newspaper Man Died Saturday
Chicago, Nov. 30 - Samuel Shepard Rogers, business manager of the Chicago Daily News since 1881, and for two years president of the American Newspapers Publisher's Association, died Saturday at Crystal Lake, Ill. of paralysis.
His death followed ill health for 18 months. His home was at 301 North 64th Avenue, Oak Park.
Mr. Rogers was born Jan. 14, 1857 in Lee, Mass., and was the son of Lydia Bradley Barlow Rogers and Samuel Shepard Rogers. In 1877, he was graduated from Williams College and at Washington Heights, June 27, 1882, he was married to Mary Deming Howe. Mr. Rogers was the father of Mrs. Webb Stevens of Rockford, Ill., Samuel Shepard Rogers, Jr., Charles Howe Rogers and Dorothy Rogers. He was a member of the Congregational Church.
Prior to his association with the Chicago Daily News, Mr. Rogers was principal of the High School at Washington Heights. He was a member of the Oak Park Board of Education for several years. His term as presiding officer of the American Newspaper Publishers' Association was from 1905 to 1906.
