ALTHEA M. NASON
LINCOLN - Althea M. (Lancaster) Nason (Grammy Sade), 101, wife of the late Ben Nason, passed away Sept. 8, 2014, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. She was born June 20, 1913, in Macwahoc, the oldest of 17 children of Linwood and Ethel (Hodgdon) Lancaster.
She went to Howland at the age of 16 to work as a maid and nanny for Madeline Crocker. It was there that she met Ben Nason. They married Oct 24, 1929 and had four children, Ardis, Ida, Billy and Dail. Ben and Althea were married for 56 years before Ben died Dec. 20, 1985.
Althea worked in the Advance Bag and Paper Co and the Atlas Plywood Co, both in Howland. She cooked in Grindstone for a crew of woodsmen, she cooked for SAD 31 for 11 1/2 years where she was known to many of the students as "Grammy Sade". She also cooked for "Meals for Me" and then she retired.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Ardis and Jim Ireland, sons-in-law, Gene Griffin and Gerald Crommett, grandchildren, Diana and Greg Curtis, Michael Ireland, and Donnie Nason, and her 16 siblings.
At her request, there will be only a graveside service at Howland Cemetery.
