Because she could no longer wait to see our Dad's smiling face again, Phyllis P. Kelley, 92, widow of Wilbur (Bill) A. Kelley, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Hartford Hospital with her daughter and son at her side.

Phyllis was a graduate of Hall High School in West Hartford, CT and attended Connecticut State Teachers College where she earned her Bachelor's degree in education. She was also a member of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education and went on to attend Central Connecticut State College, earning her Master of Science degree in 1969.

She began her teaching career in the East Hartford School system, leaving to raise her family and returned to teaching at Whiting Lane School in West Hartford, retiring after more than 20 years. She and Bill traveled extensively throughout the world and the U. S., but enjoyed coming home to West Hartford and spending time at their home on Cape Cod.

Phyllis was an active member of the First Church of Christ Congregational in West Hartford for over 60 years, volunteered with the Red Cross and at John Dempsey Hospital after retirement, was an avid reader, knitter and football fan. After Bill's death, she moved to Avery Heights, where she resided for the past three years.

Phyllis leaves two children, Linda Winchester and her husband Edward of West Hartford, and Paul Kelley of Vernon; four grandchildren, Justin Winchester, Tyler Kelley, Elizabeth Peck and Tanner Kelley and three great grandchildren, Mia, Lola and Bode Kelley.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery and per her request, a graveside memorial with family and friends will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to First Church of Christ Congregational in West Hartford. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
