John W. Knapp

SKOWHEGAN -- John W. Knapp, 89, of Norridgewock, formerly of Portland, died Thursday in a Skowhegan hospital, following a long illness.

He was born at Flaggstaff, the son of Omar H. [sic] and Susie Smith Knapp. He attended Flaggstaff schools, Skowhegan High School and Bliss Business College in Lewiston. For many years, Mr. Knapp operated a dry good business and was a movie operator at Stratton. He came to Portland and was associated with the New England Ship Building Company. He later operated an IGA store in Portland, retiring in 1958. He was a 50 year member of the Masons and the OES and attended the Woodford Congregational Church at Portland.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Carolyn) Goodrich of Redding, Mass. [sic]; a sister, Erma Hudson of Oakland; and four grandchildren.
