Verna J. Knapp
STRATTON -- Mrs. Verna J. Knapp, 82, of 121 Ash St., Reading, Mass., a former Stratton resident, died Thursday at Winchester, Mass. hospital following a long illness.
She was born in Stratton, daughter of Edward S. and Alice Bemis Jones. She attended Stratton schools and graduated from Stratton High School. Mrs. Knapp moved to Portland in 1940, where she assisted her husband in their IGA store on Danforth Street for eight years. She was a member of the OES for more than 50 years. She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters of Stratton and a member of the Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland.
Besides her husband, John W. Knapp of Reading, Mass., she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Carolyn) Goodrich of Reading; three grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
