KENDALL ENDS LIFE WITH GUN ON WEST SIDE Town Official and Veteran Farmers Exchange Leader is Dead
West Springfield, Oct. 30 - C. Donald Kendall, 53, of 29 Craiwell Ave., town official and 20 year employee of Eastern States Farmers' Exchange, died tonight of a gunshot wound in the head, which Dr. William F. Geran, associate medical examiner, said was self inflicted.
Police said that Mr. Kendall had placed the muzzle of a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger shortly after arriving home from work about 5:30.
It was learned from a reliable source that Mr. Kendall had been under the care of a psychiatrist for the past week. The doctor had recommended that Kendall, reportedly mentally exhuasted, take a vacation from work.
He had intended to take the vacation next week. An absentee ballot had been arranged with town clerk, it was charged.
According to his son, Charles, Mr. Kendall, after arriving home from work told his wife he was going upstairs for a few minutes and shortly afterword she heard the shot.
On Finance Board
A resident of West Springfield for 15 years, he had been employed by Eastern States Farmers' Exchange for the past 20 years. He was a member of the town finance committee for 5 1/2 years, recently having been appointed chairman of the administrative and fiscal committee.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Catherine Hall Kendall, he leaves two children, Mrs. William Bellows of West Springfield and Charles of Springfield; three grandchildren; and two brothers, H. Clayton Kendall of Worcester and H. Lindsey Kendall of Milford, N.H.
A private funeral will be held in Dickinson-Streeter funeral parlors. Please omit flowers.
