Francis H. Greenleaf
War Dad President, Lodge Officer, Dies
Francis H. Greenleaf of Lewiston, prominent lodge member and charter member and past president of the American War Dads, L-A Chapter, died this morning at the Central Maine General Hospital. He had been a patient for a short time, but had been in failing health for the last year. Mr. Greenleaf was 64 years old.
He was born in Otisfield, Jan. 7, 1889, son of Percival and Hattie Holden Greenleaf, but came to Lewiston about 50 years ago. In earlier years, Mr. Greenleaf was purchasing agent for the old Lunn & Sweet Shoe Co., in Auburn, but at the time of the death was a salesman for the H.B. Product Co., of Brockton, Mass.
Mr. Greenleaf occupied a prominent role in the lodge activities of both Lewiston and Auburn. He was a Past Chancellor of Eureka Lodge 48; Grand Lodge Representative of Knights of Pythias; Past President of New England War Dads as well as being a charter member and Past President of the local group; Treasurer of the Nomads; and royal Prince of the DOKK. Mr. Greenleaf was a member of the East Otisfield Baptist church.
In addition to his widow the former Lura Morrell of Lewiston, Mr. Greenleaf leaves a son, Francis H Greenleaf Jr., of Lewiston; four daughters, Mrs. Rowena Peabody, Mrs. Avis Smyc, Mrs. Glenice Radonski [sic], and Mrs. Esther Robbins of Lewiston-Auburn; two brothers, Hartley of Norway and Ernest of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
DIED In Lewiston July 25 Francis H. Greenleaf, 64, funeral from Memorial Chapel Dillingham and Sons, Tuesday July 28, at 2:30. Interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Friends unable to attend services may call at chapel Sunday p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
