1931 - 2001
LEWISTON -- Wade "Mack" McManus, 70, of Greene, died Monday evening Dec. 10 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center where he has been a patient since Dec. 1.
He was born in Easton on June 27, 1931, the son of Leroy and Gladys (Hammond) McManus. Educated in Auburn he was a graduate of Edward Little High School class of 1949. He then entered the U.S. Marines serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant.
"Mack" then was chosen to play baseball and football for the U.S. Marine National teams where he excelled in these sports. After the war, he played semi pro baseball as a pitcher. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married the former Vira Jordan.
He was a graduate of the Auburn Maine School of Commerce, and in 1969 a graduate of the University of Southern Maine of Gorham. From 1960 to 1977 he worked managing accounts and data processing at Geiger Brothers.
Prior to his retirement in 1996, he worked for the State of Maine Tax Enforcement Division as Tax Examiner. He is a member of V.F.W. Post 1033 of Greene, Nezinscot Lodge No. 101 and the Androscoggin Square & Compass Club. In his younger days he enjoyed owning and racing horses. In recent years he enjoyed his mornings with his many friends and neighbors at Mower's Market in Greene.
Survivors include his wife of Greene; two sons, Dale R. of Auburn, Dr. Scott and his wife Jeanne of Middletown, Del.; three grandchildren, Kassidy, Erin and Deklan; one sister, Mrs. Harry (Barbara) Vivian of Greene; one brother, Kempton of Westfield.
