Mark S. Hutchins
New Portland\emdash Mark S. Hutchins, age 82, of New Portland Hill Road, died Wednesday April 25, 2007 at a Brunswick hospital. He was born August 1, 1924 in New Portland, the son of Thurston and Anna Johnston Hutchins.
He attended both New Portland and Brunswick schools graduating from Brunswick High School in 1942. He later completed studies at Coyne Electrical School, Chicago. Mr. Hutchins was a US Army veteran serving in France and Germany in the 3rd Army during WWII. He worked for 27 years in the Oxford Mill, Rumford as both a medical attendant and then as a watchman. He retired in 1985. In retirement, he purchased land his family had owed in New Portland and built his home. He especially enjoyed working and making trails in the surrounding woods he had also played in as a child. He preferred open country to city life.
Mr. Hutchins was predeceased by a sister, Martha Stickney; a brother-in-law, Fred Stickney; a sister-in-law Laura Craft Hutchins. He is survived by two brothers, Erwin Hutchins of Waldoboro, William Hutchins and his wife Carmen of East Lindley, NY; three sisters, Alena Fraser and her husband Howard of Brunswick, Luella Fraser and her husband Grover of Painted Post, NY, Clara Hutchins of Brunswick; and seventeen nieces and nephews and their families.
