HOWLAND- Carl E. Carey, 70, husband of Charlene (Buzzell) Carey, died Sept. 27, 2003 at a Howland healthcare facility.
He was born June 27, 1933 in Mattawamkeag, the son of Henry and Mildred (Hurlbert) Carey. Carl served in the Air Force from 1953-1957. He owned and operated Carey's General Store in Winn from 1966-1977. Carl was a member of the Masonic Composite Lodge #168 in Lagrange and the Mormon Church in Lincoln. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 27, 2002.
In addition to his wife, Charlene, he is survived by two daughters, Gloria Dahlgren and her husband Kirk of Detroit and Marilyn Voisine of Brewer; three grandchildren, Michael Jandreau, Jr. and his wife Beth of Medway, Geizette Voisine and her friend Thomas Witherly of Newport and Marlene Voisine of Bangor; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Dill and Heidi Jandreau; seven brothers and sisters, Ruth Afholderbach and LeRoy Carey and his wife Sharon, all of Zephyrhills, FL, Delmont Carey and his wife Inez and Norman Carey and his friend Marsha Lawless, all of Howland, Rebecca Martin of Hampden, Eldora Merrill and her husband Robert of Long Beach, Washington and Theodore Carey and his wife Eileen of West Enfield; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special friend, Sam Alexander of Cormack, Newfoundland.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln, at which a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Keith Arnold and Russell Jarvis officiating. Interment will be in Howland Cemetery. A time of refreshments will be held after interment at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Penobscot Valley Ave., Lincoln. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
