HOWLAND \endash Delmont Oliver Carey, 77, died gently and peacefully Nov. 14, 2011, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Brewer, son of the late Henry and Mildred (Hurlbert) Carey.
Upon retiring from Lincoln Pulp and Paper Co. in 1996, he enjoyed 15 years of camping, hunting, fishing, trapping and traveling with his wife. In his younger years many weekends were spent with his wife and children at camp and fishing. As a couple Del and Inez went dancing, to parties and playing cards with their many valued friends. Del was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
Del is survived by his wife, Inez of Howland; his daughter, Angel of Brewer; a brother, Theodore and his wife, Eileen, of West Enfield; sisters, Ruth Afholderbach of Zephyrhills, Fla., Rebecca Martin of Hampden, Eldora and Robert Merrill of Long Beach, Wash.; mother-in-law, Shirley Parkman; brothers-in-law, Wesley Parkman and Connie, Brian Parkman and his partner, Paul Garelli, and Duane Parkman and partner, Al Libby; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Michael Carey; and brothers, Carl, Norman and Leroy.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday. Interment will be at Cedar Vale Cemetery, Argyle.
