WINTHROP -- Blaine G. Canwell, 55, of Turkey Lane, died very suddenly on Tuesday, June 5, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Augusta on Nov. 24, 1945, the son of Clifton and Celia Canwell. He grew up in Monmouth, graduated from Monmouth Academy, and earned an Associates in Science Degree in Criminal Justice at Northwestern Community College in Winsted, Connecticut. He married Judith (Foster) on May 7, 1966, at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Ind. and celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary only a month ago. He served in the United States Army from 1965-1968, 13 months of which were served in Vietnam, and continued in the Army Reserves until 1971. After being honorably discharged from the military, he worked for the Granby CT Police Department until June of 1976, at which time he and his family moved back to Winthrop, where they have since resided. He was employed by the State of Maine, Department of Transportation, from March of 1980 through the present.
Blaine liked "puttering" in woodworking and spending time with Sega, his dog and companion. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor, and looked forward to talking to his cardinals every day. He enjoyed tremendously the time he spent with his grandchildren, and most of all, the time he spent with his loving wife.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; their two sons, Stephen Canwell and his wife, Melissa (Judd), and Jeffrey Canwell and his wife, Tina (Brochu); a very special grandson and a beautiful granddaughter, Michael and Alyshia Canwell and a sweet step-granddaughter, Breanna Cox; his twin brother, Wayne; six sisters, Mary Kenfield and her husband "Winky", Ginny Webb and her husband Ken, Joyce Proulx and her husband Perley, Lorraine Kelley, Colly Daponte and her husband Fern and Dotty Gaibler and her husband Kent; and many many special nieces and nephews. He is also missed by his sisters and brother-in-law, Sharon (Foster) Piper and her husband Don, Brenda (Foster) Wright and her husband Butch, and his mother and father-in-law, Ethel and Orland Foster.
Blaine was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Alvah Canwell.
