NORTH MONMOUTH -- George Clifton Canwell, 82, died Friday at the Williams Health Care Facility, Augusta, following a short illness.
He was born in Wilton [sic], Oct. 18, 1905, the son of George and Mary Howard [sic] Canwell. He was educated in the schools of Monmouth and married the former Celia Turner on Jan. 1, 1928 at North Monmouth. She died Oct. 24, 1981. Mr. Canwell was employed at the Bonafide Mill in Winthrop for 22 years.
Surviving are two sons, Blaine of Winthrop and Wayne of Bath; six daughters, Mrs. Winthrop (Mary) Kenfield of North Monmouth, Mrs. Fernando (Colleen) Daponte of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Kenneth (Virginia) Webb of Winthrop, Mrs. Perley (Joyce) Prouix of Brewer, Mrs. Kent (Doris) Gaibler of North Glen, Colo., and Mrs. Lorraine Kelley of Randolph; 29 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Canwell was predeceased by a son, Alvah, on Feb. 24, 1979.

CANWELL -- Died in Augusta, December 25, 1987, George Clifton Canwell, age 82. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Bragdon-Flanders Funeral Home, So. Main St., Monmouth, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Spring burial in the Ridge Cemetery, Monmouth.
