WOLFEBORO -- Candace Anita Hale, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and teacher, died on Friday, July 4, 2008 at her home at 57 Taylor Drive in Wolfeboro.
She was 85 and had lived most of her life in Wolfeboro. Anita was born in Prentiss, Maine, on Jan. 28, 1923.
She graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro. She was also a graduate of Westbrook Junior College and received her B.S. of Education from the University of New Hampshire.
Anita taught kindergarten to the children in local communities for many years and has touched the lives of many youngsters in our area. She began teaching in a private kindergarten in her home and then proceeded to teach in the Ossipee Head Start, The Wolfeboro Nursery School, and the Governor Wentworth Regional School District.
She taught at Ossipee Central School, Center Ossipee, and then for many years at Carpenter School in Wolfeboro.
Anita was the widow of the late Robert G. Hale of Wolfeboro and was predeceased by a son, Robert G. Hale II of Rochester.
She is survived by her children Pamela Ackley, of Cleburne, Texas, and Gay Edmunds, Stephen Hale and his wife Leslie, Matthew Hale and his wife Gwen, and Deborah Skelley and her husband Chip all of Wolfeboro.
Her greatest love and pride were her family, and she was delighted to be surrounded by her 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Kathy Hale of Rochester, and her sister, Alyce Alexander of Rockland, Maine, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anita loved Wolfeboro and its people. She loved her daily outings about town and her visits with friends and acquaintances.
She was a lover of nature and all its wonders. Many hours were spent watching the birds and wild animals at her red cape on Middleton Road and in the past few years those behind her home on Taylor Drive.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro. The Rev. Tom Christen will officiate.
