EDITH P. LINDSEY
Edith P. "Edie" Lindsey, 65, of the 1000 block of Princess Anne Road, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in a local hospital.
Born in Chelsea, Mass., Edith was a teachers assistant with Virginia Beach City public schools. She was a lifetime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, member of the Women of the Moose Chapter No. 966, and charter member of the Creeds Volunteer Rescue Auxiliary. She was one of the first certified women to render emergency care and transportation to health care facilities and helped organize the junior program. Three of their four children followed George and Edie into volunteer emergency care, first as juniors, then as adults, and into health care careers. She enjoyed square dancing with The Wrecktangles and camping with The Campers Group Old Dominion Chapter No. 13.
Edie is survived by her husband, George Lindsey; father, Herbert William Peary; daughter, Georganna Wright and husband Allan; two sons, William Lindsey and wife Betty and Gene Lindsey Sr.; three sisters, Joan Stallford and husband Eddie, Selena Peary and Eleanor Mitchell and husband Bruce; brother, Herbert Bradford Peary; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Amelia Peary; sister, Susanna Ulch and son, George Lindsey Jr.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Charity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Creeds Volunteer Rescue Squad, 595 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457.
