LINCOLN - J. Oland Barton, 78, died Feb. 24 at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. He was born March 30, 1895, in Union Corner, N.B., son of James and Margaret (Sypher) Barton.
He was a 50 year member of the Horeb Lodge of Masons, Lincoln; a 50 year member of the Minerva Lodge of Odd Fellows, Lincoln; Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor; past worthy patron of the Eastern Star of Lincoln; a 50 year member of the Carl Burrill Post, American Legion; and a veteran of World War I. He was a former member of the Lincoln Lions Club and Lincoln Rotary Club, and a member of the Congregational Men's Club. An honorary member of the Maine Funeral Directors Association, Mr. Barton was the founder and owner of the Barton Funeral Home in Lincoln until his retirement in 1963.
He is survived by his wife Louise (Knights) Barton of Lincoln; two sons, Robert and James of Lincoln; one daughter, Mrs. Guy (Nadia) Leadbetter of Burlington, Vt.; one brother, Vernon of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Barton Funeral Home in Lincoln, the Rev. Edward Bristow and the Rev. Theodore Wallace officiating. Spring burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
