Larry Schierman, 80, Moscow

Larry Schierman, 80, a longtime Moscow resident and businessman, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, at his home.

Larry was born on Jan. 4, 1923, to Conrad and Elizabeth, and was one of eight children. He was raised in the Endicott-Colfax area and graduated from Colfax High School in 1942.

He joined the Navy during WWII and spent three years in the service, after which he returned home and met Maxine Squires. They were married in Moscow on Nov. 12, 1946.

Larry was employed in construction and worked for Commercial Builders until he started his own excavating business. In 1969, he and Maxine, started Slurp'n Burp Tavern on the outskirts of town, and operated the business together until her death in 1977. He continued the business with the help of his son Pat, until it was sold in 1997.

Larry is survived by three sons, Mike of Wasilla, Alaska, Pat of Pullman, and Terry of Moscow; five grandchildren; one sister, Emma Baldwin, of Monroe, Wash., and the family of Marlene Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; his companion of 17 years, Marlene Hunt, his brothers Dan, Raymond and Floyd and sisters Marie Schierman, Edna Green, and Clara Weitz.

According to his wishes, no services will be held.
