Ex-Teacher Dies at 70
Mrs. Ethel Lowe, a former teacher for many years prominent in women's Clubs and organizations in the valley, died this morning at the Bernath Nursing Home at the age of 70 years.
Ethel McGinnis [sic] was born Feb. 1, 1893, in Tacoma, attended schools there and graduated from Ellensburg Norman School. She taught at Shelton a year, then came to Ellensburg where she taught in the Fairview District, the old Hartman District, then later in the city schools. She moved back to Tacoma for a year, taught at Sunnyside two years and returned to the Kittitas Valley where she taught at the Badger Pocket District school for three years. In June, 1919, she was married to Parker Lowe. She farmed in the Edgemont-Thrall area for 18 years and moved to the Badger Pocket district in 1947. In 1950, they retired and for the past 10 years have resided at 710 East 3rd Ave.
Mrs. Lowe was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, was a past matron of Ellensburg Chapter Order of Eastern Star and a former state officer of OES. She was a member of Gallina Club and for many years was prominent in the Cancer Society.
Mrs. Lowe is survived by her husband at the family home; a son, Keith Lowe, Rte. 2; five grandchildren; two brothers, Milton McGinnis [sic] of Oxnard, Calif. and J.K. McGinnis [sic] of Gig Harbor; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Eastham of Seattle and Mrs. Grace Clifton of Lynden. She was preceded in death by another son, Lt. Kenneth Lowe in the U.S. Air Force in Japan in 1945 and by a brother, Walter McGinnis [sic] in Yakima this year.
The Rev. William R. Van Ness will officate at funeral services for Mrs. Lowe at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 in the Evenson chapel. Committal will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
