Young Monmouth Business Man and Athlete Dies at CMG Hospital

MONMOUTH -
Norman Harold Edwards, 32, prominent young business man, died Saturday at the C.M.G. Hospital, Lewiston, after an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Edwards was born at Augusta Aug. 29, 1913, the son of the late William H. Edwards, Jr. and Winifred Gott Edwards. He came to Monmouth in 1928 and attended Monmouth and Hebron Academies.

For ten years he was employed as a decorator by Harry H. Cochrane and six months ago bought half ownership in the Monmouth Market, where he was a business partner of his brother-in-law, John A. Ellis.

Mr. Edwards was prominent in the Masonic Lodge, having served as master of the Monmouth Lodge in 1944 and 1945. He was past patron of Boynton Chapter, OES, a member of the Boy Scout Committee and the Monmouth United Church.

Until he received an inury, he was prominent in athletics and played in the local baseball, basketball and football teams. He was also interested in music.

Besides his widow, the former Eleanor Nichols, he leaves two sons, Lehan A., and Guy W.; three sisters, Margaret R. and Mrs. Eleanor Johnson of Auburn, and Dorothy Deeter.

DIED - In Lewiston, August 17, Norman Harold Edwards, of Monmouth. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 o'clock in the United Church. Interment Ridge Cemetery.
