Auburn --- Barbara Swan Frost, of Hooper Ledge Road, South Paris passed peacefully away Friday, September 25 at the Hospice House.
She was born in South Paris on October 17, 1915, the first child of Wilber and Lura Morrill Swan. She was a graduate of Paris High School, Farmington State Teachers College, and received a B. S. degree and a Master's degree in Psychology at Western Connecticut State University. She took further graduate studies at University of Hartford, University of Bridgeport and the College of New Rochelle (NY).
She married Howard R. Frost, Jr. of Westfield, MA at South Paris on March 27, 1942, with the Rev. Rensel Colby officiating.
She was a teacher in Maine and Connecticut, having retired from teaching at the Driscoll School in Wilton, Connecticut. In Connecticut she was a member of the Wilton Education Association, the Ridgebury Congregational Church and the American Association of University Women. In retirement in Maine she served on the boards of the Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Pine Needles Quilters of Norway-Paris, Child Abuse Council, Rape Crisis Center, Paris Hill Historical Society, Hillside Cemetery Association, Western Maine Art Group, First Universalist Church of South Paris and the Paris Cape Historical Society where she was a founding member, charter member and life member. She was a member of the Buckfield Historical Society and the Hebron Historical Society. She was a volunteer in the public schools, a historian of local history, a speaker, a writer and a quilter. She was the coordinator and quiltmaker of the Oxford County Bicentennial Quilt of 2005 that hangs in the Oxford County Court House in South Paris. In 2004 she was honored as Quilter of the Year at the Augusta Civic Center.
She is survived by her husband Howard Frost of South Paris; a son Peter Frost of West Paris; a sister, Theresa Law of Oak Glen, CA.; a sister-in-law Roberta Barber of Fullerton, CA.; and nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Roland Swan of South Paris.
Frost --- Died in Auburn on September 25, 2009. Barbara Swan Frost, of South Paris. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, October 4 at 2 p.m. at the South Paris Universalist Church on Pine Street. A reception at the church will follow the service. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery at Paris Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home 45 Main St., South Paris.
