Hicks - Leadbetter
LIVERMORE FALLS, May 16 (Special) - Miss Verna Fay Leadbetter of Livermore Falls and Robert M. Hicks of South Paris were married at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of the officiating clergyman, Rev. F. Stewart Kinley, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls.
The attendants were the bride's father and mother and sister, Miss Rena Leadbetter. The bride wore a white suit and hat and carried sweet peas.
Mrs. Hicks is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shirley F. Leadbetter of Livermore Falls. She was born in Leeds and graduated from the Livermore Falls high school in 1927, and three years later from Farmington Normal School. For the past three years, she has taught English at the South Parish Junior High School.
Mr. Hinks is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Hicks. He graduated from South Parish High School and attended the University of Maine for two years. He is a tree surgeon. The young couple will live in South Paris.

SOUTH PARIS -- Mrs. Verna L. Hicks, 50, wife of Robert M. Hicks, died Wednesday afternoon at the Stephens Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient two days.
Born at Leeds, Oct. 25, 1901 [sic], she was the daughter of Shirley F. and Nellie Danforth Leadbetter. She married Robert M. Hicks on May 15, 1933. She was graduated from Livermore High School in 1927, Farmington State Teachers College in 1930, and took extension courses from Gorham State Teachers College and Bates College. She received her B.S. in Education from the University of Maine. She had taught English at South Paris Junior High School 26 years. She was a member of the Maine Teachers Association and the national association. She had been awarded an honorary life membership in the Maine Congress of Parents and Teachers. Mrs. Hicks was also a member of the South Paris PTA.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, John R., Augusta and Stephen M., Rumford; her father and step-mother, Mrs. Ida Leadbetter, North Livermore; two sisters, Mrs. Winston Willey and Mrs. Sheldon White, both of Skowhegan; two brothers, Charles Leadbetter, North Livermore; and George Leadbetter, Newport; and three grandchildren.
DIED -- At Norway, July 26, 1961, Mrs. Verna L. Hicks, wife of Robert M. Hicks of South Paris. Funeral services will be held from the Raymond Funeral Home, Norway, Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Kenneth B. Gray of the First Congregational Church officiating. Interment Riverside Annex. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 4 to 9 p.m.
