JASPER L. AUSTIN

DOVER-FOXCROFT -- Jasper L. Austin, 83, died July 26, 1981, at a local hospital.

He was born at Ripley, Feb. 19, 1898, the son of Owen W. and Abbie (Lane) Austin. Mr. Austin was employed for many years at the American Woolen Mills; later he owned and operated the Golden Rule grocery store, and offered his customers door-to-door delivery service. For 14 years he was a custodian at the "Warren Home", where Mrs. Austin was a matron. He also was a delivery man for the Footman and Hillman Dairy and served as a chaplain at the Piscataquis County jail for nearly 50 years. He was a very active member and charter member the Dover-Foxcroft Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife, Violet (Towne) Austin of Dover-Foxcroft; four daughters, Mrs. Terrance (Bertha) Gallant of Sangerville, June Buchnam of Dover-Foxcroft, Mrs. Vernon (Faith) Holland of Guilford, Hope Lacourciere of Southington, Conn.; one brother, Harold W. Austin of East Montpelier, Vt.; ten grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Dover-Foxcroft Assembly of God, with the Rev. LeRoy Weymouth and the Rev. Wilson Hickam officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the Lee Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Those who wish may make contributions to the Assembly of God Missionary Fund, 66 East Main St., Dover-Foxcroft in Mr. Austin's memory.
