BEATRICE H. VARNUM

SEBEC -- Beatrice Hill Varnum, 81, wife of Rex L. Varnum, died April 11, 1999 at the Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was born March 10, 1918, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Elmer O. and Etta (Drinkwater) Hill.

She attended schools in Dover-Foxcroft and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in the Class of 1936. She enjoyed the many years of working on the farm she and her husband established in Sebec, horseback riding, caring for her cats, and tending her large vegetable and flower gardens. Her retirement years were spent in Truth or Consquences, N.M. and Deer Island, Canada. She and her husband traveled in their motorhome throughout the U.S. and Canada.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rex, of Williamsburg, N.M.; her three sons and their wives, Robert and Ruth Varnum, Richard and Linda Varnum, all of Sebec, Ryan and Rinda Varnum of Hopland, Calif.; her twin daughters, Diane Varnum Smith of Old Town, Dorna Varnum Patterson of Sanford; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft where funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, with the Rev. David McLeish officiating. Burial will be in Rural Grove Cemetery.
