SEBEC - Richard Hill Varnum, 64, passed away Sept. 28, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. A lifelong resident of Sebec, Richard was born Dec. 10, 1945, son of Rex Lindsay and Helen Beatrice Hill Varnum.
He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1964 and attended the University of Maine. Richard grew up working on the family dairy farm which he would help build into a business icon of the local area. In 2002 he co-founded a technical company in fiber optics with partners, Jorge Cano and Troy Veitenheimer. He served as a director of the company until the day of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rinda Conner Varnum; his sister, Dorna and her husband, Tom Zilinsky, of Sanford; sister, Diane Smith of Old Town; brother, Robert Varnum and his wife, Ruth, of Sebec; brother, Ryan Varnum and his wife, Lin, of Hopland, Calif.; daughter, Maria Laning LeBerre and her husband, Tom, of Herndon, Va.; daughter, Lindsay Varnum Cano and her husband, Jorge, of Malaga, Spain; son, Dickon T. Varnum of Sebec; daughter, Ashleigh Varnum Eastham and her husband, John, of Brooks; son, Lincoln C. Varnum of Sebec; nine grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in the family lot at Rural Grove Cemetery.
